Episode 42: How do I Deal with the in-laws? Getting the “other side’s” perspective. Part 1 In-Laws

In this episode of Powered by Joy Podcast, my daughter-in-law Kylie and I open up about the often complex, sometimes tense, but deeply rewarding relationship between mother-in-law’s and daughter-in-law’s. Drawing from our own journey together over nearly 14 years, we  candidly discuss how family dynamics have evolved through major life events, especially new motherhood, which can bring unspoken expectations and frustrations to the surface. By sharing our experiences, we share the importance of understanding different communication styles, respecting personal boundaries, and cultivating mutual support to build a strong, respectful relationship.

Through moments of self-reflection, we highlight how personal growth and perspective- have been essential in breaking generational patterns and fostering healthier interactions. We discuss the unique challenges new moms face, including postpartum anxiety, and emphasize the value of practical, compassionate support from mother-in-laws, like offering help with childcare or household tasks. By focusing on intentional communication and compassion, we share insights on how both generations can approach each other with grace, respect, and understanding—ultimately modeling healthier family dynamics for the future.
