Episode 21: ditch your negative thoughts-5 ways to stop your inner critic!

In this episode of the Powered by Joy podcast, we explore the power of our inner dialogue and how we can shift from negative, critical self-talk to compassionate, love-based thoughts. I share how, during a difficult period in my life, I started looking for help to cope with life. Through the book "The Success Principles" by Jack Canfield, it taught me the importance of positive thinking and gratitude even in tough times. By focusing on our inner dialogue (that critic who often won’t shut up!), we can begin to notice and change the critical voice inside our heads, replacing it with one that is coming from love and compassion, and not fear and judgment.

We will review five practical, helpful steps to transform our mindset and make space for more joy.

1) Set an intention each morning to listen to our thoughts using a physical reminder like a bracelet to snap upon noticing the negative voice or thought.

 2) Acknowledge the negative thoughts when they occur. If possible time-wise, also ask with curiosity, where is this thought coming from?

 3) Shift the thought(s) to more positive, believable thoughts, examples given on how to do so in the episode.

 4) Incorporate gratitude into our new thoughts, can you shift all the way to gratitude?

 5) Remember that this is a continuous Practice where we aim for progress, not perfection.

Bonus step- Try viewing this process as a game, focusing on how quickly you can catch and transform negative thoughts to a better more king, loving thought. Through these steps, my hope is that you will create more space for joy in life by fostering a supportive inner dialogue (quieting the critic) and practicing gratitude daily. Become your own cheerleader!
